Student Biography

Drew Nicholas is in his 5th year studying Architectural Engineering at The Pennsylvania State University. May 2016, he will graduate with an integrated Master and Bachelor of Architectural Engineering in the Mechanical Option. While at Penn State, Drew has become involved in outside organizations and has also had three professional experiences in addition to an international experience in China.

 

Following graduation, Drew has accepted a job in Sterling, VA for Southland Industries as a Project Engineer. After his second and third year, Drew worked with multiple construction management companies in the Washington DC area.  During his internships he was exposed to multiple projects, ranging from coordination and development of the master project punchlist, project takeoff estimates, and drawing organization and accuracy. After his fourth year, Drew worked in Dulles, VA as a Design Engineer intern with Southland Industries where he gained key experience calculating static pressures, room cooling loads, ventilation calculations, HVAC design and sizing, and energy modeling.

 

Outside of his professional experiences, Drew is currently serving as the President of the Penn State ASHRAE Student Branch. He is also a member of the executive board of the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB) as the Corporate Connections Representative. Drew has been involved in the Penn State IFC/Panhellenic Dance Marathon the last five years. In the past three years, he has been a Committee Member for the Entertainment and Morale committees, while also serving on the executive board for Everyday, a Special Interest Organization as the Recruitment Chair. This year, Drew was given more responsibility within the organization as a Production Development Captain for the Public Relations Committee. In this role, he is responsible for leading a committee dedicated to documenting THON's year. He is also responsible for producing all of THON's internal communication and promotional videos shown during THON and throughout the year.
